What Is Farming in Heartopia?

Farming is Heartopia's most reliable gold income source. You buy seeds from Blanc in Town Square, plant them on your farm plots, wait for them to grow, harvest, and sell or cook the produce. Every crop in Heartopia sells for exactly 3x its seed price, but the real difference is growth time — faster crops earn more gold per hour even if the per-unit profit is lower.

Your farming efficiency depends on three factors: which crops you plant, how often you can harvest, and whether you process crops into higher-value cooked dishes before selling. This guide breaks down all three so you can optimize your farm at any playstyle.

New crops unlock as your Development Level increases. Higher-level crops are not automatically better — Tomato (Level 1) has the highest gold per hour in the entire game. Smart crop selection beats high-level unlocks every time.

Gold/Hr = (Sell Price - Seed Cost) / Growth Time in Hours. Assumes instant replanting.

The 3x Rule & Why Fast Crops Win

Every crop in Heartopia sells for exactly 3x its seed price. This means the profit margin is always 200% regardless of which crop you choose. The only variable is time.

The Math:

  • Tomato: 10g seed → 30g sell → 20g profit in 15 min = 80 Gold/hr
  • Avocado: 180g seed → 540g sell → 360g profit in 48 hrs = 7.5 Gold/hr
  • Tomato earns 10.7x more Gold per hour than Avocado

The catch: fast crops require you to be online and actively replanting. If you can only check your farm twice a day, 6-12 hour crops like Strawberry, Lettuce, and Corn give better real-world returns than fast crops you cannot harvest in time.

Rule of thumb: pick the fastest crop whose growth time fits your play schedule.

Daily Farming Routes by Playstyle

Choose the route that matches how much time you spend in Heartopia each day. Mix routes if your schedule varies.

Speed Farmer (Active Play)

~3,000-5,000 Gold/day
Playtime: 60-90 min/day
Crops: Tomato + Pineapple
Best for: Players who play in long sessions

Plant fast crops in rotation. Harvest every 15-30 minutes. Best for active players who stay logged in. Requires frequent attention but highest gold/hour.

Morning & Evening (Casual)

~2,000-3,500 Gold/day
Playtime: 30 min x 2/day
Crops: Strawberry + Lettuce + Corn
Best for: Players with limited daily playtime

Plant 6-12 hour crops in the morning, harvest in the evening. Plant overnight crops before bed. Best balance of effort to income.

Once-a-Day (Minimal)

~1,000-2,000 Gold/day
Playtime: 15-20 min/day
Crops: Corn + Eggplant + Grape
Best for: Players who prefer variety over farming

Plant long-cycle crops once per day. Low maintenance but lower gold/hour. Good when combined with other income sources like fishing.

Tree Farm (Passive)

~500-800 Gold/day
Playtime: 10 min every 1-2 days
Crops: Tea Tree + Cacao Tree + Avocado
Best for: Players who rarely garden

Trees grow over 24-48 hours. Extremely low effort. Best as a supplement, not a primary income source. Trees are mainly grown for cooking ingredients.

Crop Processing: Cook Before Selling

Cooking crops into dishes multiplies their sell value by 1.3x to 3x. If you have the recipes and ingredients, always process before selling. Here are the best crops to cook.

Tomato30gTomato Jam / Ketchup~60-90g2-3x
Wheat285gBread / Flour-based dishes~400-600g1.4-2.1x

Grape480gGrape Juice / Wine~600-800g1.3-1.7x

Processing values are approximate and vary by recipe. Some recipes require additional ingredients.

Worked Example: 10,000 Gold in One Week

A Level 6 player with 12 farm plots wants to earn 10,000 Gold from farming in 7 days.

Setup: Morning & Evening Route

Morning (8 AM): Plant 6 plots of Strawberry (6-hour growth) + 6 plots of Lettuce (8-hour growth). Cost: 6 x 125 + 6 x 145 = 1,620g investment.

Midday Harvest (2 PM)

Strawberry ready. Harvest 6 strawberries (6 x 375 = 2,250g sell). Replant 6 Strawberry for evening. Lettuce still growing.

Evening Harvest (8 PM)

Strawberry + Lettuce both ready. Harvest: 6 x 375 + 6 x 435 = 4,860g. Plant 12 Corn overnight (12-hour growth).

Daily Totals

Revenue: 2,250 + 4,860 + morning Corn harvest ~3,060 = ~10,170g gross. Seed costs: ~3,600g. Net profit: ~6,570g/day.
In 2 days the 10,000g target is reached. In 7 days: ~46,000g profit.

Best Crops by Level Range

Level 1-4 (Early Game)

  • Tomato — if actively playing
  • Potato — if checking hourly
  • Pineapple — unlocks at Level 4, excellent

Focus on fast crops. You have limited plots so gold/hour matters most.

Level 5-8 (Mid Game)

  • Wheat — 4hr sweet spot
  • Strawberry — 6hr overnight
  • Corn — 12hr sleep cycle

Mix crops to match your schedule. Start processing for extra income.

Level 9+ (Late Game)

  • Same fast crops — still best gold/hr
  • Trees (Tea/Cacao/Avocado) — for recipes
  • Process everything — cooking multiplier

Late-game income comes from cooking, not raw farming. Grow what recipes need.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best crop for gold per hour in Heartopia?
Tomato has the highest gold per hour at 80 Gold/hr (20 profit every 15 minutes). However, this requires constant replanting. For a more practical balance, Pineapple (74 Gold/hr, 30-minute cycles) or Wheat (47.5 Gold/hr, 4-hour cycles) are excellent choices depending on how often you play.
Should I sell crops raw or cook them first?
Processing crops into dishes almost always increases their value by 1.3x to 3x. Tomatoes and Cacao benefit the most from processing. However, factor in the extra time, stamina, and additional ingredients required for cooking. If you are short on time, selling raw is still profitable — just less optimal.
What crops should I plant if I only log in once a day?
Plant Corn (12 hours), Eggplant (14 hours), or Grape (16 hours) before logging off. These grow overnight and are ready when you return. For a 24-hour cycle, Tea Tree works but has much lower profit. Avoid fast crops like Tomato if you cannot harvest frequently.
Where do I buy seeds in Heartopia?
All crop and flower seeds are sold by Blanc, who is located in Town Square. Seeds unlock progressively as your Development Level increases. Higher-level seeds are not always more profitable per hour — check the profit table above before committing to expensive seeds.
How many garden plots can I have?
You start with a small farm plot and can expand by upgrading your Development Level. Each upgrade adds more planting slots. By mid-game you should have enough plots to run a profitable daily farming route. Prioritize plot expansion over other upgrades if farming is your main income.
Are flowers worth growing for income?
Flowers are generally less profitable than crops for pure gold income. They take 18-34 hours to grow and do not sell for significantly more. However, flowers are essential for NPC gifts (many NPCs love specific flowers), crossbreeding rare colors, and home decoration. Grow flowers for quests and gifts, not for selling.
What is the profit margin formula for crops?
Profit = Sell Price - Seed Cost. Gold per hour = Profit / Growth Time in Hours. For example, Tomato: (30 - 10) / 0.25 hours = 80 Gold/hour. This assumes instant replanting with no downtime. Real-world gold/hour will be slightly lower due to travel and inventory management time.
