What Is Fishing in Heartopia?

Fishing is one of Heartopia's most rewarding activities because the ingredients are completely free — you only spend stamina. With 67 fish species across 17 locations, fishing provides steady cooking ingredients, collection entries, Exhibition Points, and passive income.

Each fish has three catch conditions: location (which body of water), time of day (morning, afternoon, night, or all day), and weather(sunny, rainy, rainbow). Matching all three conditions is required to catch location-exclusive species.

The real value of fishing comes from cooking. A raw fish might sell for 50-200g, but a Grilled or Seafood dish made from that fish sells for 200-600g. Fishing during crop growth downtime turns idle minutes into pure profit.

All Fishing Locations

Weather & Time Mechanics

Fish availability depends on weather and time of day. Understanding these mechanics is the difference between catching common fish and landing rare collection entries.

Sunny

Most fish are available on sunny days. This is the default and best for general fishing sessions.

Rainy

Rain-exclusive fish appear at several locations. Check the forecast and prioritize rare catches during rain.

Rainbow

Rarest weather condition. Rainbow fish are the hardest to catch — drop everything and fish when rainbow appears.

Daytime (6 AM - 8 PM)

Most fish available. Morning and Afternoon-specific fish are subsets of daytime. Good for general grinding.

Nighttime (8 PM - 6 AM)

Night-exclusive species. Several rare fish only appear at night. Plan dedicated night fishing sessions for collection completion.

Fishing Routes by Playstyle

Quick Morning Route (20 min)

5-8 fish
Locations: Suburban Lake → Meadow Lake
Best for: Daily quest completion and basic ingredients

Start at Suburban Lake (3-4 casts). Walk to Meadow Lake (2-3 casts). Sell or cook the catches. Done before crops need harvesting.

Ocean Circuit (45 min)

10-15 fish
Locations: Zephyr Sea → Ocean → Old Sea
Best for: Seafood recipe stockpiling and mid-game progression

Bus to Zephyr Sea dock. Fish 5 casts. Boat to Ocean (4-5 casts). Continue to Old Sea (4-5 casts). Return via bus. Cook Seafood dishes with catches.

Collection Hunter (60 min)

8-12 fish (higher rarity)
Locations: East Sea → Whale Sea → Onsen Mountain Lake
Best for: Completing fish collection and rare catches

Target location-exclusive fish you are missing. Check weather and time conditions first. Bring bait for better odds. Each location has 3-4 unique species not found elsewhere.

River Run (30 min)

6-9 fish
Locations: Tranquil River → Giantwood River → Rosy River
Best for: River-exclusive species and combining with foraging/wood gathering

Follow the river system. Fish 2-3 casts at each spot. Gather wood and forage items between rivers. Efficient multi-tasking route.

Worked Example: Fishing + Cooking Profit Loop

A mid-game player wants to earn gold from fishing while waiting for 6-hour crops to grow.

8:00 AM: Plant crops, then head to Zephyr Sea

Plant Strawberry (6-hour growth). Bus to Zephyr Sea. Fish 6-8 casts over 20 minutes. Catch: ~5 fish (Beltfish, various ocean species).

8:30 AM: Move to Suburban Lake

Bus to Suburban Lake. Fish 5-6 casts. Catch: ~4 lake fish. Total session: 9 fish in ~40 minutes. Zero ingredient cost.

9:00 AM: Cook and sell

Return home. Cook 3x Grilled Fish + 2x Seafood dishes = ~800-1,200g sell value. All profit since fish cost nothing. Plus cooking XP gained.

2:00 PM: Harvest crops + repeat

Harvest Strawberry (sell or cook). Replant. Fish again during next growth cycle. Daily total from fishing alone: ~2,000-3,000g profit + cooking levels.

Fishing Tips

1. Fish while crops grow

Plant 4-hour or 6-hour crops, then fish until harvest time. This converts dead time into free cooking ingredients. One fishing session easily covers 2-3 Seafood recipe batches.

2. Check weather before heading out

Some fish only appear during rain, rainbow, or sunny weather. Check the forecast from your home before planning a route. Rainy days unlock exclusive fish at several locations.

3. Match fishing to cooking needs

Before fishing, check which Seafood or Grilled recipes you want to cook. Target specific fish instead of random catches. This prevents inventory bloat and maximizes cooking profit.

4. Fish at night for rare species

Several fish are night-only (8 PM - 6 AM in-game time). Night fishing sessions can complete collection entries that daytime fishing never will.

5. Upgrade your rod before grinding

A better fishing rod reduces catch time and increases rare fish chances. Invest in rod upgrades before committing to long fishing sessions.

6. Use the Fishing Database to plan routes

Our Fishing Database page lets you filter by location, time, and weather. Plan your route before you fish — it saves stamina and travel time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many fish are in Heartopia?
Heartopia has 67 fish species across 17 different fishing locations. Each location has 2-8 unique fish, and many fish are exclusive to specific locations, times of day, or weather conditions. Completing the full fish collection is a long-term goal that requires fishing at all locations under various conditions.
What is the best fishing location in Heartopia?
Suburban Lake is best for beginners with 8 fish species and low level requirements. For profit, Sea Fishing (7 species) and Old Sea (5 species) offer the best cooking-value catches. For collection completion, you need to visit all 17 locations since many fish are location-exclusive.
Do weather and time affect fishing in Heartopia?
Yes, significantly. Each fish has specific time windows (All Day, Morning, Afternoon, Night) and weather conditions (Sunny, Rainy, Rainbow) when it can be caught. Some rare fish only appear during rain at night, for example. Always check conditions before fishing to avoid wasting stamina on impossible catches.
Should I sell fish raw or cook them?
Cook them whenever possible. Seafood recipes and Grilled Fish dishes sell for 2-3x the raw fish value. Since fish are free to catch (only costs stamina), every cooked fish dish is nearly pure profit. Only sell raw fish if you have no applicable recipes unlocked yet.
How do I unlock more fishing locations?
Fishing locations unlock as you explore the map and progress through the main story. Some locations require specific vehicles (boat for ocean spots) or quest completions. Your fishing level also determines which fish you can catch at each location — higher-level fish require minimum fishing levels.
What is the fastest way to level fishing?
Fish as much as possible during crop growth downtime. Each catch gives fishing XP regardless of species or sell value. The fastest leveling comes from quick casts at easy locations like Suburban Lake — volume beats rarity for XP purposes. Upgrade your rod to reduce cast times.
Can I fish during events for bonus rewards?
Yes. Several seasonal events include fishing challenges that award Exhibition Points, event tokens, or exclusive items. During the Exhibition Pass season, catching rare fish is a weekly challenge worth 60 points. Always check active event tasks before fishing to double-dip on rewards.
