Multiplayer & Co-op Guide — How to Play Together in Heartopia

Heartopia is a cozy farm and life simulation game, but everything becomes more fun when you bring friends along. The multiplayer system lets you visit each other's farms, compete in fishing tournaments, cook recipes together, explore the mines as a team, and participate in seasonal festival events with up to 16 players. This guide covers every co-op activity available, explains the friendship level system that unlocks deeper collaboration, and shares practical tips for getting the most out of your multiplayer sessions.

What Is Multiplayer in Heartopia?

Multiplayer in Heartopia is an optional social layer built on top of the single-player farming experience. To access it, open your in-game phone and navigate to Menu → Social → Invite. From there you can add friends, create or join rooms, and launch co-op activities. Multiplayer is available from Day 1 for basic features like Photo Sessions, but most co-op activities require specific unlock milestones such as reaching Development Level 3 or upgrading your Kitchen to Level 2.

Heartopia supports full cross-platform play between PC, iOS, and Android. There are no separate servers — everyone plays in the same ecosystem. When you invite a friend, the game creates a shared instance where both players can interact with the host's farm, local NPCs, and environment in real time. Co-op sessions persist as long as the host stays online; if the host disconnects, all guests are returned to their own farms with any rewards they earned during the session.

The multiplayer experience is designed to complement solo play rather than replace it. You cannot permanently alter a friend's farm (no griefing), and all co-op rewards are additive — you never lose resources by playing together. In fact, most activities provide bonus XP and drop-rate increases that make co-op strictly more efficient than solo play for the same time investment.

How to Add Friends

#️⃣

Friend Code

Go to Menu → Social → Add Friend → Enter Code. Every player has a unique 8-digit Friend Code displayed on their profile. Share yours on social media or in-game chat. Codes never expire and can be reused.

📱

QR Code

Open Menu → Social → My QR Code. Show your QR code to another player who scans it with their in-game camera. This is the fastest method when you are physically near each other or screen-sharing on a call.

📡

Nearby Search

Go to Menu → Social → Nearby Players. The game detects other Heartopia players on the same Wi-Fi network or within Bluetooth range. Tap a name to send a friend request. Ideal for local co-op sessions.

Worked Example: Perfect Co-op Weekend

Imagine you and three friends want to maximize your co-op rewards over a Saturday session. Here is an efficient schedule that chains multiple activities back to back:

☀️

Saturday Morning — Farm Visits (30 min)

All four players visit each other's farms in rotation. Each visit, water all crops and pet every animal. The host receives +15% crop growth speed, and visitors earn 5 Friendship Points per visit. After visiting all four farms, every player has earned 15 Friendship Points and every farm has boosted crops. Total time: about 30 minutes.

🎣

Saturday Afternoon — Fishing Tournament (45 min)

Queue up for the weekly Fishing Tournament. All eight slots can be filled with random players if your group has fewer than eight. The top 3 finishers receive exclusive bait that attracts rare fish, while all participants earn 20 Friendship Points with their party members. Focus on the deep-water spots near the waterfall for highest-value catches.

🍴

Saturday Evening — Cooking Party (20 min)

End the day with a Cooking Party. Pool your freshly caught fish with farm ingredients to unlock collaborative recipes. All participants receive +20% recipe XP, meaning one co-op cooking session is worth nearly a full day of solo cooking. Each player also earns 20 Friendship Points. By the end of the evening, each friendship has gained approximately 55 points — enough to push most friendships from Level 1 to Level 2 in a single session.

Pro Tips for Multiplayer

🌍

Coordinate Time Zones

Heartopia uses the host's in-game clock for co-op sessions. If you play with friends in different time zones, agree on a real-world meeting time and designate the host whose in-game clock is most favorable for the activity you want to do.

🎁

Gift Daily for Friendship XP

Sending one gift per day to each friend costs very little but gives 10 Friendship Points. Even cheap items like wildflowers count. A daily gifting habit is the fastest way to climb from Level 2 to Level 3 where the best co-op perks unlock.

Mine on Lucky Days

Check the in-game fortune teller before starting a Mine Expedition. On days marked "Lucky," rare ore spawn rates receive an additional 15% boost on top of the existing +25% co-op bonus, bringing your total rare ore bonus to +40%.

📸

Use Photo Sessions to Farm Friendship XP

Photo Sessions are available from Day 1 with no unlock requirement. Every group photo awards Friendship XP to all players in the frame. Snap a quick photo at the start and end of every play session for free bonus points.

🚀

Prioritize Reaching Friendship Level 4

The teleport ability at Level 4 eliminates travel time between farms. This makes all co-op activities dramatically faster since you can instantly hop to your Best Friend's farm instead of walking across the map. Focus your gifting and co-op time on one friend first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Heartopia multiplayer cross-platform?
Yes. Heartopia supports full cross-platform multiplayer across PC, iOS, and Android. You can play with friends regardless of their device. All co-op activities, farm visits, and chat features work seamlessly between platforms. Just make sure everyone is on the latest game version to avoid compatibility issues.
What is the maximum number of friends I can add in Heartopia?
You can have up to 50 friends on your friend list at any time. If you reach the cap, you will need to remove an existing friend before adding a new one. There is no limit on how many friend requests you can send or receive, but only 50 accepted friendships can be active simultaneously.
Can I interact with offline friends in Heartopia?
You cannot visit an offline friend's farm or participate in co-op activities with them. However, you can still send them gifts through the mailbox system. Gifts sent while a friend is offline are delivered to their mailbox and they receive them the next time they log in. Gifting still grants friendship XP to both players.
Are co-op rewards shared equally between all players?
It depends on the activity. In Farm Visits and Cooking Parties, all participants receive the same bonus rewards. In Fishing Tournaments, rewards are ranked — the top 3 players get exclusive bait while others receive standard participation rewards. Mine Expedition loot is shared equally among all party members, with each player receiving the same ore and gem drops.
Does friendship level decay if I stop playing with someone?
No, friendship points do not decay over time. Once you earn friendship XP with another player, it is permanently stored. However, if you remove a friend from your list and re-add them later, your friendship level resets to zero. So avoid removing friends unless you are certain you will not want to play with them again.
Does Heartopia have voice chat for multiplayer?
Heartopia does not have built-in voice chat. The game provides text chat, quick emotes, and a ping system for communicating during co-op activities. For voice communication, most players use external apps like Discord. The game does support a party text chat channel that is visible only to your current co-op group.
Can I create a private server in Heartopia multiplayer?
Yes. You can create a private room from the Social menu by selecting "Create Room" and toggling the privacy setting to "Friends Only" or "Invite Only." Private rooms support up to 16 players for festival events and 4 players for standard co-op activities. The host controls who can join and can kick players at any time.
