What Is the Heartopia Marriage System?

Heartopia's marriage system is a late-game relationship mechanic that lets you propose to one of four NPCs after reaching maximum friendship. Marriage unlocks daily passive benefits, exclusive home decorations, and a long-term family storyline that unfolds over multiple in-game seasons.

Unlike standard friendship, marriage is a persistent state that integrates into your daily routine. Your spouse moves into your home, interacts with you every morning, and provides profession-specific bonuses that compound over time. Players who optimize gift-giving and complete NPC side quests first will reach marriage in under 35 in-game days.

You must reach Development Level 5 before the relationship system unlocks. Below that level, the heart meter for NPCs does not appear, and the Proposal Ring recipe is unavailable.

How to Get Married in Heartopia — Step-by-Step

1

Unlock the Relationship System

Complete the main quest "Community Bonds" (Development Level 5 required). This unlocks the heart meter for all NPCs and makes the Proposal Ring craftable at the Workshop.

2

Build Friendship to 8 Hearts

Gift your chosen NPC daily. Prioritize their favorite gift for +3 hearts. Complete any NPC-specific side quest that appears at 6 hearts — this unlocks the final friendship tier.

3

Complete the Rival Event

Each marriage candidate has a "Rival Scene" at 8 hearts. This is a story cutscene — watch it fully. Skipping it locks the 9th and 10th heart tiers until you revisit.

4

Reach 10 Hearts (Max Friendship)

Continue daily gifting after the rival event. Max friendship (10 hearts) unlocks the proposal option. A golden heart icon appears next to the NPC in your relationship menu.

5

Craft the Proposal Ring

Go to the Workshop. Craft: 1x Diamond, 5x Gold Bar, 1x Silk Thread. The ring costs ~2,000-3,000g in materials depending on market prices. Buy Diamond at Doris Fortune Store or mine in deep ore zones.

6

Propose

Talk to the NPC while holding the Proposal Ring in your active slot. Select "Propose" from the dialogue option. If they accept, a cutscene plays and you set a wedding date for 3 in-game days later.

7

Plan the Wedding

Talk to Mayor Atar to register the wedding. Invite up to 8 NPCs as guests. Choose the ceremony location (Town Hall, Garden Plaza, or Beachside Gazebo). The wedding costs 500g in planning fees.

8

Wedding Day

Attend the ceremony on the scheduled in-game day. Complete the 3-part ceremony: Ring Exchange, Banquet Toast, and First Dance. Missing any part delays spouse benefits by 1 in-game week.

Worked Example: Marrying Massimo in 30 Days

A mid-game player wants to unlock Massimo's cooking bonus as quickly as possible.

Days 1–10: Daily Rare Spices + unlock side quest at 6 hearts

Buy Rare Spices from the traveling merchant (appears every 3 days) or grow Pepper and process into Spice Mix at the Kitchen. Give one Rare Spice per day (+3 hearts). Reach 6 hearts and trigger Massimo's side quest "The Perfect Dish."

Days 11–20: Complete side quest + watch rival event

Complete "The Perfect Dish" by sourcing 3 rare ingredients and helping Massimo cook them. This unlocks hearts 7–10. Continue gifting through Day 16 to hit 8 hearts and trigger the rival cutscene.

Days 21–28: Max friendship + craft ring

Keep daily gifting. Hit 10 hearts around Day 27–28. Meanwhile, mine for Gold Ore (need 30 ore = 5 bars) and find a Diamond. Craft the Proposal Ring at the Workshop.

Day 29–30: Propose → Register → Wedding

Propose to Massimo. Register with Mayor Atar the same day (500g fee). Attend the ceremony 3 days later. From Day 31: Massimo's +5% cooking sell price is active every day.

All Spouse Daily Benefits

Morning Meal

Spouse cooks a daily breakfast that restores +20 stamina when eaten. Higher cooking-level spouses (Massimo) give better quality meals.

Gift Surprises

Random daily gift on the kitchen counter. Quality depends on spouse personality and current friendship tier.

Joint Home Decoration

Spouse adds their own decorative touches to your home over time. Unlocks 3 exclusive furniture sets not available in shops.

Anniversary Bonus

Every in-game year of marriage on your anniversary date: receive a special keepsake item and +50 friendship hearts reset boost.

Spouse Skill Sharing

Passive bonus tied to spouse's profession (Massimo: +5% cooking sell price; Blanc: -10% fashion crafting cost; Vanya: +2 music event tokens; Doris: +1 fortune reading/week).

Marriage Tips

1. Do not rush the Rival Event

The rival event at 8 hearts is a required story beat. If you skip or dismiss it quickly, hearts 9 and 10 become locked until you replay the scene from your relationship menu.

2. Farm Diamond before proposing

Diamonds are the bottleneck ingredient for the Proposal Ring. Mine the deep ore zone (unlocks at Development Level 6) or buy from Doris during meteor shower events (15 Wishing Stars each).

3. Invite NPCs you have gifted before

Wedding guest NPCs with higher friendship levels give better wedding gifts. The maximum bonus item quality comes from guests at 7+ hearts.

4. Pick your spouse based on your play style

Massimo is best for economy players (cooking bonus). Blanc suits fashion-focused players. Vanya rewards event-active players. Doris suits collectors who play during special weather.

5. Save an anniversary gift in advance

The anniversary keepsake item is one of the most useful random-loot items in the game. Mark your in-game calendar so you do not miss the anniversary day and lose the bonus.

After acceptance, register with Mayor Atar and attend the wedding ceremony 3 in-game days later.
Who can you marry in Heartopia?
There are 4 marriage candidates in Heartopia: Vanya (Musician), Blanc (Fashion Designer), Massimo (Gourmet Chef), and Doris (Fortune Keeper). Each requires max friendship (10 hearts) and their personal side quest completed before you can propose.
How long does it take to reach 10 hearts in Heartopia?
With daily favorite-gift giving (+3 hearts/day) and birthday bonuses, reaching 10 hearts takes approximately 25-35 in-game days from zero. If you use only liked gifts (+2 hearts/day), expect 40-50 days. The rival event at 8 hearts is required — do not skip it or you cannot progress further.
What materials do you need for the Proposal Ring?
The Proposal Ring requires 1x Diamond, 5x Gold Bar, and 1x Silk Thread. Diamonds can be purchased at the Doris Fortune Store during weather events or found by mining in deep ore zones. Gold Bars are smelted from Gold Ore (6 ore per bar). Silk Thread comes from crafting with Silk at the Workshop.
Can you divorce in Heartopia?

Massimo gives +5% cooking sell price; Blanc gives -10% fashion crafting cost.
Can you have children in Heartopia?
After marriage reaches a stable state (approximately 30 in-game days together), a special dialogue option appears with your spouse about "expanding the family." This triggers a side quest that eventually results in a child NPC joining your home with their own small daily interaction and gift system.
