How to Cook Seafood Stew

1

Unlock the Recipe

Seafood Stew unlocks in two ways: reach Fishing Level 5 (the recipe scroll appears in your mailbox the morning after you hit level 5), or purchase the scroll at the Harbor Market stall for 120g. The Harbor Market is open on in-game Tuesday and Friday from 8 AM to 6 PM at the southern docks.

Tip: Fishing Level 5 is faster than it sounds — catch 3 fish per in-game day and you will hit Level 5 within a single in-game week.
2

Gather All Ingredients

You need 1x Any Fish, 1x Clam, 1x Seaweed, and 2x Potato. Any Fish means exactly that — even the common Mudfish works. Clam is dug from the beach sand at the southern shore during low tide (in-game morning hours). Seaweed washes up along the rocky coastline or can be found while ocean fishing. Potatoes grow in 4 in-game days from the General Store seed.

Tip: Keep a Potato crop running year-round. Two Potato plants will keep up with regular cooking. Potatoes are the slowest ingredient to obtain if you run out.
3

Choose Your Cooking Station

Open your Kitchen or the Community Cookhouse and select "Recipes" then "Main Dishes." Seafood Stew appears with a blue fish icon. The Cookhouse has a Large Pot which slightly increases the chance of a quality bonus (roughly +0.3 star average) compared to your home kitchen.

Tip: The Large Pot at the Community Cookhouse also allows you to cook 2x batches at once once you reach Cooking Level 6. Prepare two sets of ingredients and cook both simultaneously.
4

Add Ingredients and Start Cooking

Add ingredients in this order for cleanest cooking animation: Potato first (base), then Fish, then Clam, then Seaweed last. The stew turns a rich orange color once all ingredients are added correctly. Confirm and start the 25-minute timer. The dish is hearty and filling — its stamina restoration stat is set at cook time, not affected by star quality.

Tip: A rare fish (Tuna, Swordfish, or Moonfish) used as the "Any Fish" component adds +5% quality chance and a small bonus to the stamina restore stat.
5

Collect and Evaluate Quality

Once the timer ends, collect the Seafood Stew from the cooking station. Check the star rating in your inventory. At Cooking Level 5 with a fresh fish, you can expect Star 2–3 consistently. Star 4–5 requires Cooking Level 7+ or a Golden Spoon tool (craftable at the Blacksmith from 3 Iron Bars + 1 Gold Nugget).

Tip: Sell Star 3 and below at the General Store. Keep Star 4–5 for gifting or selling at the Farmer Market on Sundays, where prices are 20% higher.

Ingredients & Where to Find Them

Any Fish

1x
Source: Fishing at any water body (river, lake, ocean)

Common fish like Mudfish or Carp work fine. Rare fish (Tuna, Swordfish) grant a small quality bonus. Fish can be bought from the Harbor Fishmonger on Tuesdays and Fridays for 30–90g depending on species.

Clam

1x
Source: Dig in beach sand at the southern shore (low tide, 6 AM–10 AM in-game)

Use the Shovel tool on sparkling sand patches. Each patch drops 1–2 Clams and has a 30% chance of a Pearl bonus item. Clams reset each in-game morning.

Seaweed

1x
Source: Rocky coastline (wash-ups), or ocean fishing as a bonus catch

Seaweed cannot be planted or bought — it is gather-only. Walk the eastern rocky coast each morning for 2–4 free Seaweed pieces. Store extras in your Cellar for later use.

Potato

2x
Source: Grow from Potato Seeds (General Store, 20g per seed pack, yields 3 seeds)

Potatoes take 4 in-game days to mature. One harvest yields 3–5 Potatoes. Plant a rotation of 6–8 plants to always have potatoes ready. Available to buy cooked from the Inn for 25g but that version cannot be used as a cooking ingredient.

Best Uses for Seafood Stew

Full Stamina Restoration

Seafood Stew is one of only four dishes in Heartopia that restores your stamina bar completely in a single use. This makes it invaluable during long mining or farming sessions. The restoration triggers instantly on consumption, regardless of star quality — even Star 1 fully refills stamina.

Daily Sell Value

At Star 3 (392g), Seafood Stew offers the highest base sell value among easy-to-cook main dishes. With a full ingredient cost of roughly 90–130g (depending on fish source), you net 260–300g profit per dish. Cook 3–4 per day during active play for a reliable 780–1,200g daily income stream.

Harbor Festival Gifting

During the Harbor Festival (held in in-game Autumn, Days 5–15), Seafood Stew is a top-tier preferred gift for the Harbor NPCs (Captain Reno, Fisherwoman Lian, and Dock Master Bram). Gifting Star 4–5 quality gives +30 affection and each of these three NPCs unlocks exclusive fishing tips in their dialogue trees at Relationship Level 5.

Fishing Guild Quest Board

The Fishing Guild posts a recurring weekly quest asking for 2–3x Seafood Stew. Completing it rewards 150g + 1 Fishing Guild Point. Accumulate 20 Guild Points for the Master Fisherman title and the exclusive Crystal Fishing Rod, which has the best casting range in the game.

Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as "Any Fish" for Seafood Stew in Heartopia?
Any fish item in your inventory works — Mudfish, Carp, Perch, Trout, Tuna, Swordfish, or any other catchable species. The only fish that cannot be used is the Golden Koi, which is a collectible quest fish and cannot be used in recipes. Rare fish (Tuna, Swordfish, Moonfish) grant a +5% quality chance bonus, making them slightly preferred for high-star batches.
How do I find Clams for Seafood Stew?
Clams are dug from the southern beach sand during low tide, which occurs from 6 AM to 10 AM in-game time. Equip your Shovel and look for sparkling sand patches — each one yields 1–2 Clams and respawns the next morning. There are usually 4–6 sparkling patches visible per low tide. Clams cannot be bought, so plan your mornings around the harvest window.
Does the type of fish affect Seafood Stew quality or stamina restoration?
The stamina restoration is always 100% full regardless of fish type or star quality. Fish type affects quality chance: common fish (Mudfish, Carp) give no bonus, while rare fish (Tuna, Swordfish, Moonfish) grant a +5% quality bonus. The sell price and gifting affection scale with star quality, so using a rare fish is worth it if you are targeting Star 4–5 for high-value sales or gifts.
What Cooking Level do I need to consistently get Star 4 Seafood Stew?
Star 4 requires Cooking Level 7+ when using common fish. With a rare fish as the base ingredient, Star 4 becomes achievable at Cooking Level 5. The Golden Spoon tool (crafted at the Blacksmith with 3 Iron Bars + 1 Gold Nugget) adds +1 star tier to any dish cooked while equipped, effectively lowering the level requirement by 2.
Is Seafood Stew better to eat or sell?
It depends on your play stage. Early game (before Cooking Level 5), eat the stew to maximize farm productivity — the full stamina restore is worth more than the sell price when you are still building your operation. Late game, sell Star 3–5 at the Farmer Market on Sundays (20% price premium) and maintain a small personal stock of Star 1–2 for stamina emergencies.
Where is the Harbor Market and when is it open?
The Harbor Market is located at the southern docks, one screen south of the Town Square. It opens on in-game Tuesday and Friday from 8 AM to 6 PM. The market has three stalls: the Fishmonger (sells fish and Clam occasionally), the Spice Trader (rare cooking ingredients), and the Recipe Merchant (scrolls including Seafood Stew for 120g). Arrive before 4 PM for full stock — some popular items sell out by evening.
